    Default Chickamauga lake report 5/28/19

The morning was calm slight breeze to keep things cool. Ran to what has become "the spot". Didn't take long to put the first fish in the livewell. Yep there still here! As the morning eased along I added a couple more fish to the tank. About the third or fourth fish... Wham! Woah there... Easy! And finally in the net then on the board. Finally, my first TARP! Just a fraction over the 14" line, was as good as a mile for me. After that excitement I calmed down and fished on. Boat traffic was light today, beautiful partly cloudy skies. Water temp was 82° around 11:30. When I put number 15 in the livewell winds were 10 to 15 so it was time to go. Fish were still suspended over 22' - 24' fow just of the edge of a channel ledge. Most came vertical jigging, some came from casting and slow rolling the bait on about a 12 count. Fish ranged from 10" in to 14" most were in the 11" to 13" class
Baits today were BG baby shad, scremer 3/32 chartreuse head and BG Slab SlayR, gumdrop 3/32 purple head... Name: IMG_20190528_084416.jpg

Great catch, congratulations on the TARP. In the second pic what is the double egg sinker rig looking thing hanging from his gills? Hope to get out tomorrow afternoon (after work) and hit the same kind of water up here and vertical jig a few up myself. The winds here have been terrible after lunch, and most of my deep spots are exposed in open water.

They are a couple of 1/2 oz. weights I hooked on her fins to keep her vertical. She came from deep water. I didn't have a fizzing kit to fizz her.

Interesting, I know the bass guys do this but I have never done it on deep water Crappie. I had some small ones last year get their swim bladder up in their mouth after I snatched them up fast out of 24ft water and have trouble getting back down. They were undersized so I had no choice but to throw them back. After the second one did that, I started taking my time when reeling them up after I cleared them from the brush, actually let them fight and run around a little bit before boat lifting them in and it seemed to help with the bladder issues. I do have a needle/syringe in the boat left over from my Bass days but never think to use it on the Crappie.

Fizzing kit? TARP? I'm sure I knew what that was at one time but remembering isn't a strength anymore.

Great day on the water and congrats on a very solid limit of fat fish!
