I forgot to take any pictures until I was in the middle of cutting. One slime hand picture is all you get this time.

What a day. First time out in my boat this year was an adventure. I usually like to do plenty of winter fishing but with the crazy weather this year I did not get out in my own boat.

I get to the ramp and set up to go and find the mechanic that serviced my boat hooked all of my electric cables for everything to my starting battery and left it on to kill my battery. I only figured this out as the boat is sliding off the trailer and the big motor won't crank. Pull the boat out and get a wet foot and in a huff run the curb over and bounce my boat on the trailer. I go home and charge the battery and change the cables around to where they belong and off I go to the lake 1.5 hours later.

When I finally get launched I go back into Wolftever Creek on Chickamauga. The boat ran great and I think the mechanic did a great job in getting me fixed up for a few more years of fishing. I just whished he would have unhooked my battery.

I long line jigs in 10-15 foot deep water most of the time focusing on the mouth of coves and a couple of bamboo hotels because this is where I was marking fish on my electronics. The water temp was 57 degrees. I was using multiple colors on my jig bodies but the best producers were BGBS in electric chicken and Mr. Crappie paddle tails in blue/black/chartreuse. I fished for about 3.5 hours and for the first 2 hours did not catch very much but in the last 1.5 hours I probably caught 25-30 fish with 8 keepers. Then they turned off for me again and home I went. None of the fish were big and many were in the 8-9 inch range.

I finally broke in my two new 9 foot long Southern Crappie Rods. Wow! I really like them so far and the seem to show the lightest of bites much better than the rods they replaced in my trolling spread.

The word must be out the someone caught a few because the ramp was mostly full on a Wednesday. I bet there were 40 rigs in the lot. When I was strapping down a police officer whipped into the lot and stopped suddenly beside my rig like I was in some sort of trouble. He was just excited to find out if they were biting because he is going on Friday.

    Have a great spring, JayW

Sometimes just getting to the lake is frustrating, the end result is worth the effort.
'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me... Matthew 11:4-6

Catching a mess of crappie will make you quickly forget any issue you had prior to fishing! The creek has been nonstop action since a few reports got out!
