    Default Reelfoot Lake Report 09/28 - 09/30/18

We arrived at Boyette's and checked in around 3:30pm on Friday. Unloaded the truck, went and found some minners and some drinks, and off to the ramp. We ended up launching about 1/2 mile past Bo Landing at the public ramp.
Right of the gate, we put the first keeper in the boat. Ended up fishing for about 1.5 hours, and had 4 very nice fish. Fish were taken all on tipped jigs fishing 5 to 7 foot deep in 10-11 fow.
With a nice evening already going we went back and got cleaned up and walked to Boyette's for dinner, and had a nice meal. Family style and great service, and the sweat tea was great!
Fog was on the forecast, and not having much exposure with the lake we chose to sleep until 6am, get up and head out for some breakfast to maybe the fog may begin to burn off. Had a great breakfast at Lakeview Dining Room, and made a few attempts to find launching more east of Boyette's, in the Blue Bank Resort area. Found one launch that my rig would not fit thru the cypress trees, and ended up just going back to where we launched Friday.
Got on the water and set up, 20 minutes later had fish number 1! A nice 1.50lb slab! Alright, things are starting off just right.
Then my wife's phone rings, and she proceeds to be yacking away for 10+ minutes when all of a sudden I hear "NO, #,#&=&=,#&#&#,,#&#&#,&#,="!!!!
I turn to look as to what was going on, she is holding a rod and no fish, so I'm thinking she lost a good one.
She is going crazy, grabs the net and starts shoving it deep into the water. I try to ask what was going on, and she then tells me she dropped her phone overboard!

After the dust gets settled, she uses my phone to call Verizon and get a new phone started, she gets back up front and back to fishing.
All of a sudden one of rods gets buried, and commence to crossing it's eyes! I tell her to get the net ready, and I bring this ole hog up and I see the jig is outside of the mouth. "Get it, where's the net!!!"
And then pow, rod tip slings the jig upward and that ole hog got to live a little longer! It was one of those foot stomping, cussing, ready to throw something ole hogs....

That wraps up all the action from Saturday right there. We never hooked a gar, cat, stripe, or even a drum after that. We fished all the way to Green Island Point without a single bite. We did everything from changing colors, depths, approach, speed up and down and even to a slow crawl. Into the wind, with the wind, across the wind, quarter the wind, you name it and we tried it. Ended up heading in around 3:30 to get ready for dinner at Blue Bank Fish House Restaurant.
We had a fantastic meal and wonderful service. We ate outside on their rear deck overlooking the lake. Beautiful setting to enjoy our 11th wedding anniversary!
Sunday morning we got right to it early, had breakfast again at Lakeview and launched at the public ramp right up the road from there. We went to the same depth of water we have been catching fish, and BOOM! Littlemama puts fish #1 in the boat, and the skunk was shook off once again. We kept plugging away, and kept catching everything but crappie. We then decided to make a move to the Grooms Pocket area and went shallow. Spun the boat around, and we started getting ready. Ended up finding some slight topography changes and stump clusters, and I caught fish #2. So we decided to work the area. The fish seemed to have that post east wind short strike syndrome, was just not taking it all in. We missed some fish, and then I put #3 in the boat. Then we began to just follow that topography line. Had some hits, snags, and gar battles.
And that was it for the crappie. We made several other moves to various locations, and being that I start midnight's Sunday night, we put it on the trailer around 3pm.
We didn't get skunked on any day, but 8 keepers was better than nothing. Saturday night we spoke to a Blue Bank employee that 2 guides came in Saturday without bringing a single crappie over their gunnels!
The fish quality is great with all of our fish being bigger than 11". The town is very much customer friendly and know they need to cater to the customers. We will return when the fishing is better!
Thanks for all of the advise. We went with the intention of no time tables, and to enjoy ourselves! We achieved all of our goals!!
The Ranger did great, and we escaped without any repairs or touch ups needed. Name: 20180928_173345.jpg
