Nice catch Stan.
Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer. Most schools have started back, high school and college football is in full swing, and the Crappie have started to move. A certain Alabama (Bama) dude down on Martin is reporting the same thing. It is still hot, and a short-lived storm spawned from Gordon blew through this afternoon as I was headed to the big pond. The rain cooled the surface temperatures and stirred up the waters in a big way. When I launched a couple of boats that rode out the squall returned to the ramp wet but safe. Lightning is not to be trifled with on the water. Anyway, my first stop I found Crappie biting in 14ft water. The large schools of bait are starting to move back into the coves and pockets. The main channel is still teaming with bait, but when you see the bait balls pass between the boat and the bank while sitting in shallower water, the predatory fish will usually follow. My boat was never in water deeper than 17ft this afternoon (while fishing) and the Specks were most cooperative, and hungry.

Bobby Garland baits slathered in the G Sauce convinced this bucket full to ride home with me, and my feline helper supervised the necessary freezer preparations.

Size is improving, stomachs were full of Shad, the 13in mark was brushed and the bag was a mix of Blacks and Whites. The water is falling fast now, about 1/2ft a day. Cherokee is about to break into its Fall stride.

'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.

I always hate to see summer end! I know the fishing is about to improve, hunting seasons are opening, football is rocking, and the snakes will soon disappear. I guess I still hold on to my youth and revel in the memories of the lazy days of summer, and can’t help but feel a bit sad. That being said, you sho nuff had a good evening on the water! Thanks for the report!

I usually put my boat up in October and do not get it out much in the winter. I do have an aluminum boat that I will take out some when it is cold but I am a Spring and Summer fisherman primarily. I am planning on doing more Fall fishing, say that every year but the shorter days and busier weekends just seem to stymie my well thought out efforts.
