    Default Short morning trip. 8/07/18

Dr Phillip had a big day work wise planned, so we only fished 3 hours. Boat back on the trailer by 9:30. We had a mixed bag. My intention was to catfish today and carry a crappie rod for backup.

If I want to catfish, I found out this am to leave my crappie rods at home. Grin. We started off with crappie rods in action at first light. Phil caught a white bass right away and much to my surprise, I caught a little Striper on the next cast. It was 13-14” long. Released.

Then I caught a 13.25” Black crappie on a Roly Poly Slab Slayer on a 3/32 oz jig head. Released. A few minutes later I landed a little Smallmouth bass that thought it was 5 lbs. It fought like a demon. It really stretched my 4 lb test Suffix Elite Hi-Vis line out. It was about 15-16 inches by the eyeball measurement.

We tried catfishing for for a few minutes on a drop shot rig with dead meat for bait. After 5 minutes we decided to go back to crappie fishing. I had one catfish bite that stole my hot dog and I was ready to quit.

We changed locations and that move only produced two more keeper crappie and 5-6 shorts. Thirty minutes later, a Blue catfish slammed my Strike King Slab Slanger and tried to take it to the bottom, but Dr Phil was sort of handy with the net and while talking on the phone at the same time managed to net the catfish on the third try. Then we called it a day as Phil was already into his business day. Grin

Look up the definition of Mixed Bag and you will find these photosShort morning trip. 8/07/18. I think I would have been playing the guessing game of What’s Next for every cast. Good catch!

Hope your daughter enjoys those blues' next time you see her...
'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me... Matthew 11:4-6

I love it when everything is biting ! Those "thugs" can sure twist up a good crappie rig though.
