Then you will be rewarded in the kitchen. Again, 93 on the truck thermometer when I launched Tuesday afternoon, freakin HOT. Ramp Rookies we’re out in full force for the Holiday. Last week I took a quick hiatus from deep hungry Crappie and slung a cricket or two in the shallows. The beds were almost empty but I scratched out a decent mess to donate to my boat mechanics 4th of July fish fry. Tuesday was basically wind free, so open water brush and tops were targeted. Areas that get evening Westerly Winds were like glass and holding fish. Pretty much textbook techniques, single pole a jig slathered in Slabsauce and wait for the THUMP. The Shad are starting to school up tight and the water temperatures were over 90 on the surface. I am tempted to start pulling cranks in the pockets with the bait balls, Crappie and other critters are bound to be lurking beneath them. Anyway, a quick limit of healthy looking Slabs were invited for a ride home, and the size was actually the best since the spring onslaught.
