Question Oak Ridge surrounding waters Question

I have to come down to Oak Ridge for some training class the week of March 19th. I was going to bring my boat (if I can chain & charge at hotel). I will probably get out each day around 4 and considering time will already be changed. That leaves me with about 3 hours of fishing each evening. NOW, the question is which is the best place with a quick run to the ramp to catch me some crappie? When we come down we usually go to the Chick or below Watts Bar Dam. That is just too far to travel with the time. I just don't have any knowledge about Melton Hill or any of the other areas. Thanks in advance.

Melton Hill is not one of the better lakes around here but it's a lot better than sitting around a hotel every afternoon. Put in at the ramp on Edgemoor Road. Go left and head to the steam plant. Be very, very careful to stay in the main channel. On your right just before the steam plant is Beaver Creek. Anywhere from there to the steam plant is your best bet.

There are some guys on the Tenn forum who do very well on Melton. Go back and look at older posts and PM them. I'm sure the can help you.

I keep a boat on melton hill year round. But dont crappie fish it during the winter. Ive never had great luck there in winter. I live in oak ridge and will usually drive to the Little Emory river to fish winter crappie. Anchor boat dock is about 25-30 minutes away and in my opinion would be worth the drive. Go down through Oliver Springs. Go Hwy 61 then left on Little Emory Rd. Go about a mile, when u see water at the fork in the road go right. Boat launch is 100 yards up on the left. I would go under the bridge into Bitter Creek and fish the shallow water. Watch your electronics as it shallows up quick about 150 yards past the bridge. Creek channel is to the left runs near the bank up behind the horse farm. Everything to the right is 6-4 ft with a big mud flat in the middle. If you do fish the Hill, you can put in at Clark Park, (Carbide park to some folks). Ive done well there in the past and never had to leave the cove. Bull Run Steam Plant area is also been good from time to time.

Thanks to all. I hope there is a place to buy minnows and the weather breaks. We do most of our fishing on Cherokee or Douglas. I may hit Anchor on day that we get out early (hoping that is everyday). The people at the Hampton Inn are going to love me. Boat in parking lot and minnows in the room. Wonder if they have fish cleaning service.....
