Douglas lake
Went from 3 to 530 this evening. Brought 9 crappie ,1 sm ,and 1 white bass home. The crappie were all good sized with lengths of 10 to 13 inches. One was a slab of a fish.*Had 3 shake the hook at boat and 1 break line. Figured it was a bass of some sort. Water temp. 61.6 to 62.8 and fishing in 15 to 30 feet of water catching them around 6 to 8 feet. Purple and black jigs and white was the most liked colors. Also hitting crankbaits good. Trolled 1.4 all the way to 2 mph with good results. I did employ my " drift sock aka 5 gallon bucket lol. Was able to knock roughly .6 mph off of trolling speed. Was a* very good day.* And btw, which i knew better but was in a hurry, i stopped at Dadas favorite bait shop Rimmers and paid 4.49 for 18 nightcrawlers. I didnt use them but im not sure id felt right about anyways. I mean a worm that costs that*much must have a gold nugget up its butt....

Thanks for the report. I have never been to Douglas Lake but planning on coming down the second weekend in March to celebrate my wife's birthday. Going to be staying at the Mountain Harbor Inn for the weekend so was trying decide if it was worth towing a boat? I figured that the water level would be low and might be dangerous if you don't know the lake but was hoping all this rain would help. It looks like it's still 30 feet below summer pool? Any feedback is appreciated

Hmmm for it to be a large mouth its jaw sure is placed as if its a small mouth. A lm jaw will run farther back thus enabling it to be a lm. This fish's mouth didnt open and extend as if it was a large mouth. Horizontal line resembles a lm. Red tint to eyes sure looked like a sm. Flip a coin and call it. Im not a bass fisherman or a trophy fisherman. I fish for relaxation and supper and as long as they taste good thats all i care about. I only post on this site to give some of the locals that may be on here an idea of whats going on at douglas. With the spelling police and species police the way they are on here it would do the same for me to just keep quite and fish on.

Gofish ky... i would definitely say its worth bringing a boat. The lake is down but Douglas is relatively safe during winter levels if u just take your time and watch your fish finder. Not suppose to be any rain for the next week or so, so the conditions should be nice to catch fish. If u do come with boat pm me and i will try to put u on a fish or two. The crappie are moving day to day but they are heading into their annual spots to spawn so they are getting a little more predictable.

On further review ... it's definitely not a Smallmouth (they don't have wide black lateral lines) BUT, it may not be a Largemouth, either,if (as you say) it has the shorter jaw and red eyes. That would tend to make me believe that it's actually a Spotted Bass.

Thought the same thing at first look, ET .... based on the rows of spots below the lateral line. But the lateral line just didn't look dark enough or solid enough at first glance. But when he made mention of the red eyes & short jaw, that made me realize it probably was in fact a Spotted Bass.
