I'm finding a lot of those short fish this spring. we must of had an off the charts spawn last year.
I promised a crappie report this afternoon, so here it is, Jeff, just for you. This afternoon was only the 2nd time that I have crappie fished this year. January was spent catching bluegills at the Riverpark.
I had a poor day, but I did accomplish what I set out to do and that was look at the water temps, water color, both in the main river and in several of the bays or coves.
Water temps in the river were 46-48 and it looked like chocolate milk and TVA running over 100,000 CFS and will for a couple more days or so, depending on how much more rain we get.
Water temps in the bays were 51.6 at 1:00 PM in Dallas Bay, to 54 degrees in Waconda Bay at 4:00 and 55.8 degrees at Wolftever bridge. The water in Harrison Bay was not as bad as the river, but was a sandy brown color. Water color in Dallas Bay was beautiful for crappie fishing. It was green/sandy color and I could see a jig at least 2 feet down.
I fished with float and jig without success in several places, but did catch one keeper and 1 short while tightlining a jig on 1/32 oz Bobby Garland Full Moon 2" Baby Shad. The water where I caught the fish was 9-10 feet deep and the bites were very slow.
I located what appeared to be a school of fish in deep water and fished vertically for about 5-10 minutes without a bite. Then I went to the Wolftever bridge to check out the pilings and there were small fish on them.
I am helping with the Chattanooga Christian School fishing interim this coming week and I have a couple of female students to take fishing on Wednesday and Thursday. Weather permitting. School classes on Tuesday. Grin.

Thanks for the details. I was fishing across from the bridge today. I have a feeling you and the kids will get on some crappie this coming week.
" I go fishing not to find myself but to lose myself ".
'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me... Matthew 11:4-6
