Default Chilly short fishing trip on Chickamauga 12/07/17

I got a call from one of my fishing buddies yesterday in the late morning and he was wondering if I was available to chase crappie for a short while. I agreed.
Dr Mark Pollard, aka Polo-dog, on a local fishing forum wanted to fish various roadbeds to see if crappie were there. So that meant that we were going to be fishing fairly deep. Since we were going to be fishing roadbeds, I opted to bring along a new Lew's Speed Stick with a swim bait tied on just in case the bass were active.
We actually caught more bass on crappie jigs than we did our targeted species. Grin. But while on one roadbed, we could see by surface activity that the bass were feeling frisky. So I picked up my new Speed Stick and cast it out with a 5" swim bait tied on it. A chunky trashy green fish, aka Largemouth bass, gobbled it up and while I was fighting the fish, my new rod broke about 12-14" from the tip.
This was a replacement rod for the new Lew's Speed Stick that I had purchased on November 22nd and on the Friday after Thanksgiving, after hooking up a trashy green fish, the rod tip also broke about 12" or so from the tip. Moral of the story. Don't be buying any Lew's Speed Sticks in the 6' 10" Medium action unless you are planning on fishing for bluegills and then I'm not certain that it would last.
Back to the fishing story. We only caught one or two crappie on the 3 different roadbeds that we fished. We took pics of the bass, but not the crappie. I don't know why? I did get a screen shot pic of a school of crappie that we found on one unnamed roadbed in an unknown location. Grin. The reason that it is unknown is because of a crappie tournament this weekend and I'm going back out next week to check on these fish to see if any are left.
Polo and I were fishing with 1/16 oz jig heads with Bobby Garland plastics to catch the fish, both bass and crappie. Fish were about 20' deep. Various colors.

That is an impressive screen shot! Did you try to catch any out of that school? What make and model unit is that, my Humminbird just died on me and is out of warranty so I am trying to decide on a new one. Thanks

We caught one crappie out of that school. However, the wind had gotten up and we were off shore and it was hard to present the lures to the exact spot as the crappie were not chasing at all today. The unit is a Lowrance Carbon unit that my friend has had just a couple of months or so.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there is no one out to get you
