Pay attention to the laws and you will never have to worry about paying a fine
I was out fishing in the Perryville area this weekend and met one of the local wardens. The gentleman was very polite, and professional. He checked my live well and my license and we had a good 10-15 minute chat about the Asian carp and a few other things. Also, it got me to thinking about all of those 9 3/4 inch fish that I have thrown back this weekend. I wouldn't dare keep an illegal fish, when I have to admit that throwing a fish back that you can fit a finger nail between the tail and the 10" mark. I think about all of the local fisherman who wink wink nudge nudge say that they keep the 9 1/2 fish, and they have told me that i was crazy for throwing those fish back. Boy am I glad that I didn't take their advice!!

You hit the nail on the head when you said "local fisherman". The laws and regulations are there to help protect the resource for today, tomorrow, and the future. But these "local fisherman" truly believe they are above the law, and will never get caught. These folks are part of the problem with the population along with other things, and will never be apart or support being apart of the solution.

Well said, thanks for the post!
i always make sure they're over 10, because they shrink. if i have to pinch their tails to make em' a 10 then i don't keep.

I fish Reelfoot Lake and there is no size limit, wish there was because I see guys keep just about everything they catch!! To each is own I guess, I have my own length limit and if he's not ten inches he goes back in. I have a sticky ruler on the bow of my boat and get some really funny looks at times when I catch a fish measure him and it's 8 or 9 inches and I throw it back, Just don't like to fillet one under ten inches myself...
I have used fishing and hunting guides on Reelfoot before that said that they didn't buy the license needed for Reelfoot. I guess I should have turned them in, but I kinda think the law enforcement let them get away with it. I have never even seen a warden check anyone on Reelfoot.
I also throw any back if I have to pinch the tail to get 10". It's not worth the risk and my family isn't going hungry.
If we did what was most important in life there would be a shortage of Bibles.................and fishing poles
