    Default Douglas First Trip

I'm planning a trip to Douglas the first week of May. We will be camping at Anchors Down campground. I have never fished the lake and looking for a place to start. I will be spider rigging. Any help is appreciated!

Not sure of the area where you're staying, but Muddy Creek is usually a good place to start.

Indian creek, swans, and muddy creek are all good places to crappie fish.

In my opinion May could be a tough time on Douglas.
If at all possible I would try to come in early April.

Thanks for the replys guys! I had my months mixed up, I will be down there first week of April. I know there are a lot of variables, but is that about the time of spawn? Will lake be rising or close to full pool by then? Is there a pole limit, I saw 15 fish limit per person and 10" size limit. Thanks!

No pole limit, and should be around the spawn

Anchor Down is really nice - you'll like it. I keep an RV about 1 mile from there year around and fish Douglas several times a week. First week of April is a great time to fish Douglas, but it will be rising and full of trash. Makes it really tough to Spider Rig or long line troll. You'll be on the lower end of the lake. I'd head to the back of Flat Creek. Fairly short run and the best fishing on the lake that time of year. PM me when it gets close to time for your trip and I'll give you a report. Be glad to let you follow me one morning and show you a spot or two to get started in.

Thanks for the help! The trash in lake don't sound like fun, but always seems like fish bite better when water is rising. I had found flat creek on the map and it seemed like a good place for me to start. The pics I have saw of Anchor Down look really nice. If we can catch enough fish for a meal one night we will be happy.

You'll catch fish. Last year was good but not great. 2015 was the best in 20 years. They jack around with water levels so much it really screws up the spawn some years. Look at your map - go back to where Flat Creek forms a "T". Turn left and start fishing. Flats all back thru there where they gather up that time of year. Follow the contours. I'd start at 8' and go from there. There'll be boats back there - do what they're doing. Pretty clear to lightly stained water most of the time. Small baits, 2" grubs, 1/24 oz jigs. No heavier than 6 lb test. Must have some chartreuse on it. My go to bait is electric chicken. I'm going tomorrow for the first time in 3 months. Hope the old boat still floats.
