    Default Kayak/Newbie Questions

Hey guys! I'm completely new to crappie fishing. I have never actually had the opportunity to catch one. I am in the Cookeville area and I could easily make it to Dale Hollow or Center Hill. My question is, is crappie fishing from a kayak a good idea especially on these big bodies or water? Also, I do not have a depth finder for my yak yet so finding structure would be difficult to do. Would you suggest just fishing around the banks around downed trees? The only fishing tackle that I have at this time is a little river pole that I take with me to the Caney Fork and catch trout with. Would that light of tackle be ok to catch crappie on? Thanks in advance for your help

    Caleb

I've been fishing on a kayak before, and caught a few striped bass, crappie, white bass, and 2 gar while I tried this. And my poles I use are a 6ft and 7ft pole. I did lose a few lures so carry a few extras and remember if nothing bites to switch to a different lure (color swap dilleo). If nothing bites in this area move to the next area.

Oh and one thing to look out for, snakes! Be careful when out fishing. Just a heads up.

I think the most important thing is to stay clear of the main lake. Some of those boats throw very large wakes that could turn over a kayak. You should be able to find good no wake zones to stay in and still have good luck.
