Default Weekend at the Chick? Help!!

Never fished Chickamauga, but have a chance to maybe get down there this weekend (weather permitting). As a novice, what would be a good place to start that might hold a good population of fish for jig trolling or spider rigging? Or maybe even throwing a good-ole minner or 2? I don't want any secret holes, but just a good starting point. Thanks!!

Throw a minnow or jig around the bridge supports at Wolftever Creek. Hope this helps. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Well my buddy jeffrovol and I did get down to the flooded Chick last Sunday. We couldn't stand NOT fishing in 75 degree weather!! She was high and rollin mud, like we expected, and we braved some whitecaps in the afternoon, but despite the conditions and the fact we had never fished there before, we managed to catch about 20 fish and keep 12 nice ones. I pushed jigs from the front and he pulled from the back. Most fish were caught with some combo of pink or orange and they seemed to like the minnow tipped ones better. Water was about 64F and all the females cleaned were full of eggs. Hopefully that won't affect this spring's spawn. (Maybe someone knows if they will hold those eggs all winter??) All in all, we thought it was a pretty good day considering.

Congrats on a ruff fishing weekend. As I understand it..the eggs are being made at present until after the first of the year. They will not be laid until about March & April.

I am sure you did not hurt the spring spawn.

Oh, I'm sure the few we caught won't hurt the spawn. I was just wondering if the eggs they have will be laid in the spring. Seems kind of early for them to be THAT full of eggs. I mean...they looked like they usually do in March. But I guess if they can hold them all winter, the spawn down there may be ok.

Some of these fished looked like pre-spawn fish. These fish were full and looked like they could lay. I absolutely loved that lake. It was first trip but won't be last. About a solid three hour drive for us but plenty of Waffle Houses on the way with good coffee and breakfast.

There was a huge thread on the main page about spawning, I opened a can of worms when I mentioned seeing egg sacks all year in the whites I catch, it seems most believe Crappie only spawn once a year, but if conditions arnt right they can abort or digest the egg sacks. I was tempted on bringing my boat to gatlinburg this Fall then talking the wife into fishing Chick, spounds like I should of.

Well, that was our first time down there. I've seen good reports from there all season, but just wasn't able to make the trip. When we DID get to go, it was flooded and muddy, and we novices STILL caught fish. Can't wait to go back...maybe in the spring. I'll check out that post. Thanks!
