Default Fall KY Lake where to stay

Its about that time (end of Oct.)to make my annual fall trip to Ky Lake. We have been coming down every year for the last 10-12 years. We have always stayed in the Northern end of the Lake around the Big Bear, Moors, King Creek area. Love it. Beautiful area and AWESOME people. However this year we were thinking of possibly traveling a little further south around the Paris, Big Sandy area Or possible further south. Just thinking its time for a little change. What can anyone share for pro / cons of doing that. Is this a mistake? Fishing much different between one area or the next? Talk to me. Give me some views on this. We primarily target crappie of course. But we also will keep the larger yellow bass as we love to eat them also. I will post this on both the KY and the TN page.
    Thanks

If you come to the Paris area I would recommend Fishtale Lodge.
I've never fished the north end of the lake but the Big Sandy area has plenty of good good fishing. If you have decent electronics and hopefully a map chip you can find plenty of brush piles along the drops. With the weather cooling down the fishing is starting to improve. I haven't been able to do any fishing for the last month due to my wife having had surgery but I have neighbors that fish several times a week and they are catching some. My buddy down the street went out this morning and caught 14 with the biggest being almost 15".

We always stay at Pleasant View Resort at Kentucky Lake on West Sandy when we go in the spring. Nice accommodations and docks and fish cleaning. They have ice and bait and gas on the dock and the people are super nice. Great access to Big Sandy and some good coves and structure in West Sandy. We are staying there next week for the first time in the fall. You might give it a look.

Pleasant View Resort is in a great location, it is in the back part of West Sandy and is close to two good boat ramps. Fishing is good in that area right now and will be for the next two months. The fish are a running a little bit small right now but if you stay with em, you can come away with a pretty good mess of fish. I fish in that area every weekend and know first hand. The fish relate to depth changes/dropoffs and man made structure, post again when it gets closer to your trip and I will share any info I have.
Hope you have a great trip!

Thanks Kenlake for the feedback. I will definitely give this place some serious thought. I for sure want a place right on the lake so I do not have to trailer boat every day. I like just leaving it in a dock. Do you see a lot of the Asian carp in that area? Up in the big bear area the last 2 falls there has been tons of them things in the bays. I think it has been effecting the fishing a lot.

....Channel cats are active in West Sandy right now. You will have to increase your crappie dink filter setting though. Minners on the bottom working best.

You guys keep it up and I will be heading down there instead of where I normally go. LOL.
Actually this is what I am looking for. We have been going to Big Bear for many years. I have no complaints about it. Love the place. like the fishing but for me it has been tough fishing the last couple falls. Just ready for some new scenery.

We will be at West Sandy and Pleasant View on Oct. 4-8. I will post when we get back and let you know what we were able to find. I am just really looking forward to fall break and a week off school. This is my 30th year teaching and I will be joining the retired ranks in a few short years. This is the first year I have not been coaching football (just retired) and looking forward to some fall fishing.

Years ago I spent almost all my time snagging paddlefish below the dam.As I grew weary of that I progressed to pole and line fishing the tailwaters, and then to the Lake.I always focused on the Lake above Jonathan creek. I just decided I was going to learn it and so I did. However, the majority of people I know have always fished the Big Sandy area and some the Blood river area. This goes back several generations. And I believe that the Lake south of the 80 bridge is considered superior fishing. I have fished Blood River and its good.

I am not a fishing guide by any stretch of the imagination, nor do I even fish Ky Lake all that often anymore (even though I have two brothers who live there)but I will tell you that fishing a reservoir like Ky lake has a few factors you have to consider, maybe even more so than a lot of similar bodies of water. The fish will relate to the old river and creek channels . They will follow around the baitfish. They don't come shallow or onto the flats or very far back into the coves very often. A lot of fish are caught on brush and other structure on the ledges and contours around the river and creek channels. Especially at the mouth of major creeks and the first few points and other structure not far from the creek channel in coves. But sometimes I have gotten away from all the "traffic" and found some fish in coves and main lake bank structure etc that nobody was fishing. But you might get lucky and find shallow active fish,I like to catch them better. And if your into it you will have an excellent chance of catching a trophy smallmouth bass this time of year. I do catch them on crappie jigs occasionally, but maybe you want to have a rod rigged just for them and make a pitch now and then for them. Oh yeah the amount of water they are pulling at the dam will effect fishing also. The current will set the fish to biting much of the time. That can be midday or midafternoon sometimes as the generators crank up.

Now you probably knew all that but i was just settin' here resting from a long day at work and the wife is watching tv shows I don't like so there it is.I hope you catch a boatload.
