Looking at the map Drakes Creek on Old Hickory looks like it might an option.
Hi All, my wife's best friend moved near Old Hickory Lake and she is wanting to make a trip down to visit. We are thinking last week in March during spring break. I know that could be iffy with the weather but hopefully I'll be able to fish. My boat is about 17.5 foot with a 9.9 and I like to long line a lot but will also cast at times. Any suggestions on which lake to try for a newbie and places for putting in? Suggestions on an area to concentrate on knowing I can't get around real fast? Thanks!
I don't know anything about either of them. Priest has lots of springtime action. An hour south are 3 lakes that I do fish, Normandy lake , Woods res., and Tim's ford. All have good activity that time of year. Like you said, the weather is unpredictable. I troll Woods post spawn thru fall with good results. Good luck with the trip, keep us posted if you decide to come south.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
Fished JPP last year mid April did real good caught most my fish 6"-1' deep in 1-3'fow. Long line also worked good once you find em in a lil deeper water 6-10' on structure slow trolling was a good bite to! Good luck!
Bringing this back up hoping to get more help. It appears this trip is going to happen and I will be fishing if the weather is ok. I found out my wife's friend lives in Mt. Juliet a stones throw away from old hickory. Looks like the closet spot to fish near her house would be cedar creek. Is that a good area? We will not be staying at their house and more likely will be staying somewhere near the airport as I have Marriott reward points and it looks like that will be the area we need to stay in if I intend to use them. This means I would be staying closer to Percy Priest. I'm considering leaving my boat at a marina. I contacted one on Percy and they wanted an outrageous amount. One on drakes creek on Hickory told my only $5 a day but I think that might be to far since it's on the other side of the lake from Mt. Juliet. Looking for suggestions on an area to fish and places to possibly store my boat. Feel free to PM me.
I've fished Cedar creek and done well, I've long lined and spider rigged in there, there's man made structure and the depth range is 0 to 23 fow, most of my long lining has been near the main lake channel. Also I believe you can dock you boat at Cedar creek Marina 615-758-5174. Old hickory is my home lake. That said JJP has been hot as far as crappie last year and even now they are catching some numbers, long line trolling works good as well. I would put in at Fate Saunders and go up lake to the Spring creek area. I believe the Marina has slip rental available on a daily basis also their number is 615-459-6219. I'd be glad to give you updates and locations closer to your trip, PM me and I'll get you my cell.
Have a great day,
Ray
i have fished both and both are good lakes. I prefer JPP though. I love to long line and that is about all I do when I fish down there. Fate Sanders is the place to start. PM rayzor or myself when you get closer to going down. I don't live in that area but still visit family there often. We can help you find some fish.
