    Default Douglas Report 5-13

Went back to McGuire Creek yesterday. Man is fishing tough now. We trolled (or tryed to in the 20-25mph wind) until the wind got the best of my batteries and brought home 8 BIG ones and a couple gills.
A couple of them were 15-16 inches. All had spawned except for a little female I caught that was about 9.5". She looked like she had swallowed a VW.
Most were laying on the bottom in 30-40' of water. Water temps were in the 67-69 range.

Do you troll into the wind only or with the wind using a wind sock or something similar? Into the wind I have found will get the jig down in front of their noses very deep using a gas trolling motor thats too fast, but I ski behind the boat on the return trip back :D . Have only fished Douglas within about five miles of the dam; need to learn more about the other end of the lake. Watts Bar and Tellico are slowing down so its time to head north.

I generally go WITH the wind when possible. But yesterday, that was hard to do. The wind changed directions every 5 minutes

note to self how do those big bass boats stand 70+ mph in 3 foot waves? 40 with my 115 horse was beating the crap out of us and getting us very wet hehe

Yes, I know, same thing happened the day before to me, wind eventually came from all compass points. Wind changed so often I repeatedly fished the same 20 yards over, and over, and over... :D. Guess I need to pack a few heavier sinkers....boat skims across the water so fast the lure does not have chance to catch anything. I think the snapping sound I kept hearing was the crappies' mouths slaming shut trying to bite it! Well, thats my story anyway. Been a whole day...I need to go fishing again.
