    Default Minn kota shaft question

My dad is buying an 1860 War Eagle. We pick it up tomorrow. The guy said that the trolling motor shaft seemed a little short because it comes out of the water on a windy day. I haven't seen this boat yet, so I'm not sure if it can be adjusted lower. So my question is, barring that it can't be adjusted, can you put a longer shaft on it? Its a 65 lb All Terrain. Any help will be appreciated!

Im not sure but you may want to sell that one and get a bigger one. That is an awfully big boat for 65lb. Just my two cents. You may want to post on the electronics board.

Yes, you can put a longer shaft on it. You could probably do it yourself, but I'd recommend having a service center just in case you have warranty issues.

If it were me, I'd sell the old and upgrade to a trolling motor that fits the boat. And a 65 pound model is plenty.

Matt is right. 65 lb is plenty. If you get too much, the low speed will not be slow enough. Sell and upgrade as Matt says. You might want to consider an I-Pilot.

I have a 2060 LDSV. It came with a TM like yours. I believe it was a 65 lb. thrust Maxxum with a 42" shaft. It was terrible. Any wind at all and it would come out of the water and wash out. As far as having too much power and the low speed not being slow enough, I would not consider buying another TM without variable speed. That way you can slow it down as slow as you want. My new motor is a Terrova 80 lb. thrust with Ipilot. I am still trying to get use to it vs. a Maxxum. It has a 60" shaft and so far has not gotten in my way even fishing shallow.
