but i bet you what if someone wouldve cut loose with a mouth full around his kids or grandkids they wouldve been ready to fight. ignorance some times has to be over looked
Hey guys, I don't want to stir up a stink, but I just want to throw this out there.
For any of you new to fishing I would like to say that sound carries very far on the water. If you talk loudly in a boat, it can often be heard clearly very far away. If you speak while your motor is running, it is like having a giant stereo amplifier. Finally, as Spring nears and the weather warms up, the Lake is quickly filling with women, children, and men who do not come to the lake to hear obscenity.
Many of you who know me may be reading this and thinking, "Hmm there's another so-called Christian who doesn't practice what he preaches!" And much to my shame, you would be right. As I look at my life and the innumerable times that I have publically been a terrible witness, I really believe that the foul spew from my mouth has probably done more damage to the cause of Christ than all of the rest of my sin combined. I was wrong and I apologize to each of you for being a bad witness. There, I've said it. I have made the commitment to not let my tongue control my body. Now let me tell you what happened yesterday.
Yesterday, I took out 2 kids and their father fishing on Reelfoot after lunch. There were about 12 boats out there and it looked like everyone was having a good time. Perfect conditions, and the fish were biting. After we were there about an hour, someone in a boat about 250 yards from us let loose with a string of obscenities. He appeared to be either cursing someone who "came too close" or drove by in a boat. I really couldn't tell for all of the obscenities. You could have heard it halfway across the lake. I was embarrassed b/c I love our area and most sportsmen have more respect than that. That was actually the second incident like that in about an hour. The first was at the bait shop. I really think that the Lord was showing me just how bad of an witness that I have been in my life. I still struggle with my language and find that it can go downhill in the wrong circumstance. I challenge all of you who profess to know Jesus to give control of your tongue to the Lord and to speak the truth when you face things like this.
Anyone who is looking for a blessing tonight and tommorrow night is invited to our last two Revival services at Mt. Carmel on Hwy. 94 just outside of Fulton tonight and tommorrow night at 7. Tomm. we will also have a community dinner at 6. The speaker is Eric Hixson with M.U.D. ministries. You may have seen him hunting on TV with Brock Ray's World of Outdoors. If you are going through turmoil, if you are suffering, or if you just know that you are lost alone, I strongly urge you to come and hear the message of the Gospel that he brings. It is compelling. Great post RCO!!!! I agree completely. None of us "get it all" right, that's no reason to not get it right as much as we can. Also, encouraging the rest of us to be better is never a bad thing. Thanks!
Rush you have swayed me to try to quit the pottie mouth.
If any anybody catches me saying a dirty word and points it out, I'll give you a quarter.
We started a curse bucket at work so if you say one you have to put a quarter in the bucket and you would not beleive how fast it filled up the first few weeks but everyone has cut it back. You very rarely hear one now.

Great post!! It seems like now days our language has become way to foul. I went to Paris Island to pick up my grandson when he graduated from Marine Basic. We ate at Wendy's on base and I could not believe the language everyone was using. I was 18 before I heard a lot of those words. I will soon be 72 and it offends me when people use that type language.
RCO, I have also been the same way! I had a bad afternoon at work and wanted to let some fly but I held my tongue. I have to pray every night to help me with it and I have gotten a lot better at it. Thanks for a great post!
God Bless you all.

Thats a great post, I fish quite a bit during this time of the year. I also take along my son, and my neice and nephew with me. I hate try to explain to them the language they sometimes hear. I think men and woman alike should watch their mouth when on the lake and anywhere in public. I really do respect the ones out there trying to make our lakes more cleaner, by mouth and other things as well. Since I am a woman I am asking all the other ladies to do the same and watch our language as well.
When faced with this problem, in the presence of my daughter, on or off the water, I confront (not aggressively) whomever is doing the cursing. I simply say, "Hey, do you see my child here? I would really appreciate it if you could watch the language". I may get my butt whooped one of these days , but this has happened numerous times, and the only reaction I have ever gotten is an apology.
I wish I could say that I never use foul language, but NOTHING is more embarassing to me that letting something fly, and realizing that a child has heard me. Most times, all it takes is bringing it to someone's attention.
Thanks for the great post!!!
Great post RCO. Here is a small sugestion. A lot of you nice people carry a digital camera. Zoom in on the idot with the trash mouth, take the picture and then post it here. Someone may reconise them or thier boat. and then again they may reconise themself. Sometimes embarasement is better then a swift kick in the you know what.
