    Default Quarter Ounce Weight

On the previous post I forgot to mention that when using light weights and small bobbers your boat movement is critical. You cannot fish much over six feet deep and cover a lot of ground. You will have your lines strung to the back of the boat.
If I want to cover a lot of ground in a new area I'll usually tightline with a half ounce weight until I find fish. But, trust me, if you plan on changing from tightlines to bobbers after you find fish you need another set of rods already rigged for bobbers. The down side is, instead of fishing, you're retying rigs. BUT IT SHO' NUFF BEATS WORKING!!!

    Default Yes, changing stinks

But ive got lots of room in my boat, so I am thinking about two sets of rods!!

Does BM make 16 footers that are lighter than Wally

Ive always seen more breakage on BM poles. The 14 foot wally universals are super sensitive, but I sure like the 16 footers.

Rick if you are going to buy all new rods for tightlining I would go with B&M pro trollers. That is what I am upgrading to again. Good backbone with sensative tip. A good trolling rod. IMO

Default Might just have to get one from Grizzly to try

When I get my Trolling motor back. Are they lighter/more sensitive than Wallys. I love my wallys, but the tightline specials are pretty big. Those Wally universals are awesome and I mean sensitive and durable, but 14 foot is the biggest pole. I like my 16s.

I used to fish that way you were talking bout by watching the minner dance like lake oakchobee shiner fishing for green carp! A problem can be you dont no what kind of predotory fish will attack in some instanches with minners, we would fish a private pond with a big bobber and run a big hook threw the back of a pond pearch(blue gill) for the biggest fish in the pond! We would hope!! You then had to let the bait disapate in the stomach of a fish for a better hook set! I't blow your mind to show you the 8-9 pound bass that it would produce but like you said i think the fun of it was to watch that little, no, it was the biggest brim you could hook for the biggest fish! Man that was cool, The panic mode was on and the bobber disapeered like jaws!!

I have the BnM slo trollers and love them. I don't know about the 16ft though as i only use 12ft and I have 2 14ft WM that are too heavy IMO. I don't fish Reelfoot much but the rig that you're talking about RCO is the rig i fish exclusively, and it works. Me and my buddies mainly fish North MS lakes and one in AR. We've tried everything you can think of and keep going back to this method. With my experience at Reelfoot using this type rig, the weight "hangs" the stump 80-90% of the time and I pull the pole back towards the boat with great success of not getting hung. I don't fish up there much but when fishing that's been my experience.

The main advantage IMO to fishing this rig over the "Reelfoot rig" is that with the RFR I could never detect when my bottom hook was on the bottom and with this rig you're going to KNOW when it is b/c the weight drags...

The only disadvantage to tying your rigs this way is that they are hard to fish in shallow water. I use either one hook or tie a "Reelfoot rig" with hooks real close to the weight in the middle.

Default Thanks for all of the help guys

I'm going to make a concentrated effort to become a better tightliner!

I picked up 3 shiny new BM Pro troller 16 footers today. By the time the ice thaws good, I'll be ready to give them a try. They look good.

You guys with the new trolling motors have got me fired up for sure!
