from past experiences, if they get cold they snap easy, not sure what snapped mine cause hes still got my rod......other than that looks great,
A buddy of mine here at school is wanting to try spider rigging out of his bass tracker, but doesn't want to drill mount rod holders on his boat. And not to mention we don't really have the money to get rod holders right now.
I designed a 4 rod holder system that is drill free and sits with the seat pedestal through a sleeve. It took me about two hours to put the job together and it cost me $24 dollars including tax with a some scrap left over to make another. Two friends tried it out yesterday and said they worked good (caught twelve crappie with em).
The T portion and the piece running back to the seat is 1.25" PVC. the sleeve on the pedestal is 1.5" PVC. I used 4" pipe to make the holders by cutting 2.25" rings off the end of the pipe and cutting them as seen in the pictures. I used a jigsaw for the carving. I think the idea has potential. It probably won't hold up to a real big fish like a catfish or striper, but my friends did catch a big crappie on them yesterday and said it held good!
In the pictures that's a lean-to pedestal cause that's all we had to test it. I lowered the T down to 10 inches for him to use like shown in the pictures, but will probably raise it 5-10 inches when I use it on a regular pedestal and seat. The idea is to have the tubing running from the holders directly between your legs to the pedestal under you.
I posted this on the main board, but thought I would share it here too! What yall think?

Looks good CB, if you can catch crappie on them that's all that matters. If one does brake as long as you don't lose a rod It hasn't cost you much and you can keep some spare with you. I like to see young minds at work!!!keep it up

im continualy amazed at the ingenuity of fishermen. looks like you got something that will work on crappie. if it will git er done, thats all you need...:D
listen with your eyes---its the only way to beleive what you hear...
Nice looking rod holder system a whole lot better then them clamp on holders.
Congrats on a job well done.
Absolutely genius!
If it works you cant complain with it!!!
If it's working for ya I'd say use it. The fish dont care if you spend $5 or $500 for rod holder setups. Good job on the engineering and manufacturing of those holders.
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
Looks Good to Me! Way to put that Clemson and MC education to work! Good Job.
Looks good CB ..It is good to see your education is paying off:D
