I did finally switch to a 2 oz weight and they stay alive alittle longer but still died off after about 3 to 4 min. I guess the water temp was just too much. I usually don't have any problems.... Saturday was the first time. Any reports of fish back up towards the middle of the lake?

We only fished the towers up to Jacks creek but there were 8 or more boats crowded in between spence and goat island. Usually means a hot spot. We decided not to gram ourselves in the group as most were trolling with downriggers. I don't think they have moved from the bowl area yet. the water temp is still in the mid 80s.

we went down sunday evening, trolled umbrella rigs and bucktails for a couple of hours, nada bite, moved down around the towers around dark,we fished herring from jimmy jones, they were dying within minutes of hittting the water also,we went down about a month ago and caught fish and bait lived very well then but not sunday,we ended up having 4 real good pull downs in about 4 hrs, none got the hook,we saw 1 fish caught in 6 to 7 hours on the water out of probably 25 boats, that was the worst i have seen it down there in years for us,we must have marked 2 million fish and 4 measly bites,i guess they just werent hungry in the time we were there, last trip the bite was non existant then all of a sudden it turned on,then a storm came up a hour later and ran us off the lake,at least we got 6 in that short period

Amazing what an hours time can do to the bite...especially with stripers

I don't know if this is the problem you are having with keeping the bait alive in Lake Murray. But I am a bass fisherman that uses shiners in Florida...... I have my store bought shiners in a large cooler with a pump...The temperature that bait stores keep their shiners in much colder than the lake water...They are shocked with the big temperature change......After I get in my boat and travel to my favorite fishing holes, My buddy has a large cup and continuously dips the colder water out of the cooler, and replaces it with the lake water to nuetralize the water temp.It always worked. It took us a few trips and wasting $14.00 a dozen shiners to figure it out..Never have lost a shiner since. Put one hand in the lake, and one hand in your baitwell to see if there is a big temperature difference... I have an aquarium at home, and when I buy new fish I have to float the bag in the tank to nuetralize the temperature....Same thing.Hope it works for you.By the way, I love the Lake Murray, Lexington area, and hope to live up there when I retire..
