What kinda bait are you lookin for? What part of the lake are you gonna be launching from? There’s quite a few bait shops around the lake.

There’s a good bait shop on 378 in McCormick and one down by the dam on 28. Just depends on what you are fishing for

If you are coming from Greenville and fishing midlake, Palmetto Angler in McCormick has minnows of all sizes and tuffies. Also herring and sometimes gizzard shad.

Jody's has live herring. Got them there this year.

Jody posted a message on Face Book today that he is sold out of herring. I think it’s been tough to catch with the lake turnover and up and down temps. The bait we got at Hartwell on Sunday was the most emancipated herring I’ve seen. Big heads and super skinny bodies. I’ve heard the bait looks the same.

Sometimes when herring is poor and hard to come by, the next best choice is large shiners which lots of bait stores in the area has.
