The Struggle is Real
Fished Wylie today thinking the rain would keep it cool and boat traffic low. Thinking the fishing would be good. Well, here’s what happened!! I fished for almost 3 hours before I caught a crappie. I pounded 4 of my best piles and couldn’t get bit!! They were loaded!! My confidence was crushed. A tear puddled up in my eye and thought about taking my jigs and go home. Then I was pissed and thought you’re no quitter!! Finally caught a couple. I think I had 2 at 10:30. Aaah, got the skunk outa the boat. Kept pounding the brush and it picked up a bit. A few here and there. Finally surrendered bout 3:30 with 31 caught. Didn’t keep any since I started so slow but could have kept a limit. Didn’t catch many small fish and didn’t have any big picture fish. This Old Codger is beat , glad I don’t have to fish tomorrow. I’m bout ready for an easy day when they eat it good!! Last couple weeks has beat me down.

One evening a few years back we were doing the NC/SC clash nightstalk and it was overcast and rain hanging in every inch of clouds. pressure was low and we stated fishing at 7 pm. It was about eleven pm before anyone caught a fish. I don't think gill nets would have worked. Lots of people picking up and moving trying to find fish and time was running out on us. Myself and spotrunning moved to BA near the Nuclear bridge and began to catch a few fish. In fact, enough to make the weigh in. 5 fish was all I was looking for! We managed to get back to Buster Boyd ramp in time to weigh in at 12 midnight. It was a rough night, but I figured it was the timing of feeding timetable. They weren't hungry nor wanted to play with us. It did seem that all of a sudden, they woke up and started to get hungry. Had we started later it would have been a different story. I can see your frustration TB. It does evolve around them not us. We just got to stay on them to know when they move and when they are eating more often. We talked about that not long ago. I know every few hours it gets better and then slacks off. I also know there is a hungry fish out there somewhere all the time, but you can't be over them all the time. LOL You did good hanging in there and fishing hard for what you got. Most of us would have left a long time ago. It rained all day here at my house but don't think I didn't think about going. You did great, thanks for the report!

Barometric pressure is what I should have mentioned above causing fish not to bite well. Once the clouds moved out of our area that's when things picked up. Sorry I have a sinus headache and wasn't thinking straight.
