Got questions! Is no one fishing?? Is those fishing doing terrible?? Are we too wimpy to fish? Are we ashamed to admit we fished in this heat?? I’m not confessing till someone else does. Reports not good enough to post?? Even bad reports are helpful. They help convince us that we don’t suck at fishing and we all struggle. That we haven’t given up trying. Just remember a bad report is better than No Report!! The upside is a bad report doesn’t require a photo!!
Confess and I’ll come clean on mine. No One Confessing to Fish in this HEAT.No One Confessing to Fish in this HEAT.

    OK, I'll start.....
I went out with a friend last night who wanted to try trolling for stripers at night (on Clarks Hill). Since I've never tried that, I thought OK maybe I'll learn something.
So we arrive at the landing just before dark and head towards a large point. He said let's start here and we put out lines (some weighted, some not). There was bait everywhere but not many hungry stripers as we only caught 4 stripers and 1 Cat by 11.
Lessons learned were: 1- There's better ways to catch stripers. 2- Fishing at night is pretty dang cool! 3- Only turn on your headlight for short periods of time. (unless you enjoy bugs in your nose!!!)

Last trip I made was July 8th....the bite was getting finicky, although we were fishing Lake Russell which can be finicky regardless. We were targeting quality fish, and ended up with #12 sack on our best seven...which is very good for this time of year. We did not catch a lot, quantity wise, but it was a good trip overall. From what i'm hearing, decent size fish are being caught on the Hill before noon...but the number of rejections is pretty high. This is just a tough time of year for most folks and I have a lot of other things that need to be done that are as enjoyable as sitting in the blazing heat. Hang on, much more pleasant weather is just around the corner.

I was pretty stupid this week and fished Wylie Monday. Managed to Catch 39 but only had 13 over 10”. I counted how many piles I had to hit and it no wonder I was tired. I hit 19 from the back of B. Allison all the way to Catawba CK. Came home and filleted, wash and bagged and gave to a friend that doesn’t fish.
Sworn I was finished for this week. Come Wednesday I find myself at Norman. Started good but went downhill fast, So I fished fast, I hit 21 piles before 12:00. Only caught 20 but had 17 keepers and had 7 Spotted Bass that were trespassing on the brush. Had more than I wanted to clean so I loaded and headed home. Water temp has been 85-87. Finding the right pile has been the key and then I only got a couple before the rest got lockjaw. As tuff as it’s been it’s still better than sittin in the house.

I'm liking setting at home in the air condition. I do feel a night trip coming on. Thanks for putting the post up. I don't like fishing alone. My big ole butt would end up in the lake. I may join you one of these days when you got an empty seat. If fin you got one.
