Have the hybrids ever showed up thick in the shoals in the Broad yet? I was thinking about going a couple of weeks ago and that flooding rain came. Usually I hear some reports by now from up there but it's been quiet this year. You would think this would be the week with the warm weather and new moon.

We went last Tuesday and only caught 1 catfish, only saw 3 hybrids caught all day.

Thank you for letting me know. That's kind of what I've been hearing. Not sure if the fish haven't come up yet or are already gone. I'm thinking they may have run real early as warm as our late winter was. I'm seeing a lot pictures of great catches from the upper end but all are from clean water areas in the picture so that's certainly not up in the Broad or even mouth of the Broad.

The males are in the shoals big time and the females should arrive any day. If you like fishing the broad river shoals, this week will make you smile! Name: IMG_0769.jpg

Fantastic information. Thank you. I actually headed up to Roanoke Rapids today to fish the striper run in the river. I stopped and got a big tank
full of herring at Murray on my way up. But fanged if my bait tank pump didn’t crap out and I lost 2/3 of my bait. Sickening. But the good news is we found drifting woth dead herring was working better than the live ones. We caught 44 stripers from 4 PM till dark. I’m just worried about keeping those dead herring fresh enough for them to eat for three more days. I thought about putting them in a salt brine slurry like you do with offshore baits to toughen them up. They are just in the fridge in zip locks now.
