Default Lake Wylie 4/4/2023 Crappie experts name the fish?

Took my grandson out for 2.5 hours to have some fun. I would cast out and hook crappie and he would reel it in. Then he would rate crappie a "taco crappie" or throw back. 16 made the cut for tacos.

    Hybrid?

He wanted to catch them by himself. I would cast out give him the pole count down and he would slow roll the jig over the crappie. His first one.

Now I have caught shell crackers before long time ago I thought they had color to them. Is this a hybrid? Is it Armageddon perch sleeping with crappie?

CK, I thought the same thing years ago when I caught some night fishing. They are pretty with that line running down the sides. Could be a gene problem as it is with the black nose crappie. Every few years it shows up during the span. Call it crap ola. You and your grandson did good catching. Thanks for the pictures!

You, Big Dawg and Pawpaw got the kids in the boat Killin the Crappie. I gotta find me a kid to keep up. I use to catch a lot with very little color and the line on the side but haven’t in a long time.

Taking Kids out and watching their face light up is so much worth it. I believe every fisherman if they can at some time take a child out. My two girls still remember the times I took them out when they were young. They may forget other good things you have done but they never forget the fishing times.
