Back in the spring, throwing at docks was successful for me. The preffered color seemed to be black/chartreuse. I'm not sure if that would work with the 86 degree water temp now, they might be too deep. Good luck.
Since there's more SC Folks that fish Harwell then Ga on crappie.com.
I was wondering if any of you all fish the docks for Crappie.
Thanks
Beagler

Thanks. Since I can be at Hartwell about the ame times it takes me to get to Russell. I might give them docks a try sometime. I know you hear talk of folks shoot-en docks at other lakes . But not on Hartwell. May be worth a try sometime.Originally Posted by Cleon
I don't see why it wouldn't work. I can be on Hartwell in about half the time I can be on Russell. I never fish it because of the traffic and fish advisories. I did read that panfish on the lower part of the lake are ok to eat, but that leaves the boat traffic. I may try Hartwell during the off boating season.
I'm goina give a try. Like you said in the off season. Right now your liable to get run over. I can be at the Lake in about 20 minutes so it is a little closer then Russell for me as well. I did read a artical in Gon this past spring that crappie was the forgotten fish on Hartwell. they were fishen up Beaverdam creek. Which is on the Lower end and on the S.C. side of the Lake.Originally Posted by FishnLine
I bet Hartwell has some real good crappie fishing. I'll tell ya what though, I can drive across a bridge this time of year and there's so many boats out there, I don't think I would even know which way to go if I was on the water.
This is not the time of year to go there. I was up there a couple of yrs ago and a cruiser came by me plowing water real close. I had to hurry up and turn the bow into it or I would have taken on water. Made me kind of wish I had a shotgun with me.
I've fished Hartwell quite a bit in the past four months and once it warmed up a ton of idiots came out on the water so I tried to either go during a weekday or at night. The lake is really tame at those times. I really like Lake Keowee, especially for crappie fishing, but this time of the year it blows hartwell's boat traffic out of the water. Hartwell is definitely worth it although you can't eat most fish.
I can be on Hartwell in 10 minutes but would still rather drive 35 minutes to Russell. Ecspecially this time of year!! After Labor day it seem to slow down a bit but the green carp guys still keep ya rockin.
Beagler,
If you do try shootin' docks, here's a bit of advice. You'll want to find docks in the backs of creeks with some stained water. Those fish are hard to fool in daytime in that clear water the lower end is famous for. A good friend of mine who is a full time guide took out two dock shootin' pros for a day. He was amazed at the number of fish these guys caught, and he paid attention to what they looked for in terms of docks to fish.
Good luck!
William
