Thread: Boat Isues...But Getting 'Em Fixed!

First thing that happened was the bilge pump gave up the ghost. Next, on my last fishing trip the trim took the motor down but was dead when trying to bring it back up. (Lucky for me the last time I tried to raise the motor coming back into the ramp it worked so I didnt have to worry about tearing the motor up getting on the trailer and getting the boat home. Oh! And BTW it would take King Kong to loosen that screw that allows you to raise the motor by hand!) And lastly, the livewell pumps fills up the livewells but they wont hold the water long enough for me to make it back home anymore.

So.....today seemed to be the perfect day for a little working on the old boat. I'd already U-tubed the issue with the trim and tilt last night and found out I had a faulty relay. At $10 each I went ahead and replaced both those relays. That was an easy fix o0nce I found which cover they were hid under.

Next thing I tried was switching the wires on the switches to make sure my bilge just didnt have a faulty switch. That wasnt the problem. So I removed the curtain on the back of the boat to expose all 3 of my batteries (which are in my way getting to the bilge pump). Got all the wiring off the batts, zip ties together for each battery, and got them pulled up out of the way and tied to the rod holders. Got the battery tray out and all cleaned up.Then there's a piece of flooring that had to be removed to expose all the pumps. Finding those 4 screws was a real bugga!

My boat is a 1993 model an there was alot of more wires back there that went to things no longer on the boat but instead of removing all those wires I just got my zip ties out and went to work gathering them up and putting them on the roof of the compartment out of my way. Removed the old bilge pump and went to town to pick another up. No dice. Nothing I wanted so I ordered one online that says will be here Sunday. Monday will do just fine too.

Then.....looking at replacing the valve that holds the water in or keeps the water out of the livewell. That one is gonna be a real PAIN to replace so I called my boat mechanic. For whatever reason he already has a pair of those valves on order and says to call him next Tuesday. I asked if he'd install it and he said sure.

The only other thing that needs fixing is the tachometer needs replacing but I wont worry about that until one of these days when I decide to replace my old carburated 1993 model 90 hp Johnson motor. I know about what speed I can run without getting too high on the rpm's so all is good with that.

So....maybe it looks like mid week next week I'll be ready to go again?!? Hey! I'll be good if it gets ready by Friday of next week myself. Wish me luck!

Oh yea.....the dates on both my trolling batteries was purchased in 2017 & 2019! Fingers crossed!

4 stroke of your choice it will Dang near pay for itself in gas you save. when I got my 4-stroke 90 Yamaha I thought the gas
gage broke on it lol it stayed full for 4 or 5 fishin trips. I called boat place and he said to keep running it it would come to itself.
