    Default Russel 1/27/2023

Fished Russell this evening. Caught white perch and yellow perch but not a ton. Kept about 15 for cooking tonight. Went to bond creek before leaving and caught a couple crappie right before sunset. Could probably do well with long lining, only got to fish about 20 minutes in bond.

Congrats. Anytime you can bring a mess of fish home for a meal then it's a successful tip IMO. Have you ever tried the back of Pickens where the trees end? Used to be a GREAT place to catch fish but I havent been back there in years now.

One of my best night trips came from there in the dead of winter a few years ago. I haven’t fished up there yet this year because of how muddy things keep getting. However when or if it ever stops raining for a few days I’m going up there. I’m curious if the perch get up towards Hartwell dam this time of year. That will give an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.

You must be running a pretty fast boat. It's a pretty good haul from Pickens to the shoals behind the dam. I used to shoot fish alot during the nights up the Savannah.

Oh yeah it’s a good distance but I will not use sanders ferry ramp under any circumstances. I will put in at Greg shoals. I’m confident in catching fish below Sanders Ferry this time of year but not above it. However I have heard a few good reports over the years of winter time crappie and yellow perch.

I never felt safe using either of those ramps. I used to just buy a park pass and put in at Russell park to fish bonds and Pickens. I also used the rowing ramp whenever I wanted to fish Vans and Dry Fork creeks. Theres also two more creeks down Savannah from the golf course on the left side I used to fish. Without getting my maps out I cannot remember the names of those creeks right now. I used to nightstalk all the time back then.
