Was there any structure other than the rock? The other day I found a large rock with a tree up against it holding fish.
Found the big boulder. It was loaded and got a couple big fish off it. This picture is the next day. Wasn’t as many fish on it but I could see the boulder better.

Used to catch them around a large submerged Boulder on Guntersville. That was a good hole
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
Don’t think there was anything. I cast and let it drop on top and never got hung up. I should have moved to the other side and fished it because there is a blind spot that could have held fish.

There's a lake in NC that's got rocks in it pretty commonly. I know of at least two spots where it's just rocks, that hold crappie pretty reliably. Most other places it seems like catfish and carp cruise them.
Doug, the rock wall in front of the nuclear plant where the sheriffs boat house is located (main channel) as you face it to the right side, we used to catch crappie casting to the rocks from about 20 feet out. We'd anchor down and work it for as far as we could throw two jigs. It's pretty deep and we had four PVC buckets lined up in I want to say 16 feet of water. I've heard they like rocks if it's an ambush point. That place seemed to be one.

I’ve caught crappie on Rocky Points just suspended. The shear size of this bolder is what amazed me. The Rocky points close to deep water has been best for me.

Nice pic and thanks. Crappie can orientate themselves to anything. Rope in the water, rocks, points without wood, ledges, sunken anything even mud to hard bottom line. Just needs something different and on their highway. I have not tried or experience it but I have heard guides say that in winter time crappie like the rocks on shoreline for it warms water some, not to mention the food chain is present.
It is fun to go out and find and learn this crappie world but at my stage of life, I take my single pole and enjoy the thrill the thump of pulling a crappie away from a structure with my 5.5 foot ultralight and 2 pound test. That excites me seeing that pole bend and fight the fish and not breaking the 2 pound line. It really never gets old and always feel like the first time. You could say I am retired from the grind and just enjoy getting out.
Keep posting and sharing your experience. I enjoy reading your post of your knowledge and time on water. You definitely put the time on water to be successful. Wet lines.
