    Default Late Report

Hadn’t been anything posted lately so decided to post due to inactivity. If you haven’t been out lately it time to go. Went out Friday expecting it to be buzzing with boats. Past experience is Fridays can be as Crowded as the weekend. Had the mindset I was gonna fish a little out of character for me. Got on the water at 7:30 and instead of fishing brush I was gonna snipe open water. Spotted a few I couldn’t get to bite. Finally found a small school that were moving. Caught a couple small fish and then they spooked and dove to the bottom and disappeared. Found another school, same thing. Spooky!! 8:30 hit a few piles and caught them better and had some keepers size. Being in the mood to fish different I scanned some docks and found one but it had floats staggered where you couldn’t shoot all the way under. Every hole was just clear about 4 feet back. Caught some there with a couple good size. Left that and went across a point and saw some fish. Turned around thinking it probably Spotted Bass. Wrong! Crappie! Had trouble with boat position but kept at it and caught 8-10 there. Funny thing there is a Crappie fisherman came around the point pretty close just plowing and made a big wake. I was rocking but the wake came over where the fish were and that’s when I caught the best fish. Hahaha, Don’t think they knew how bad the wake was. I didn’t have bad thoughts, but did smile when they went straight to the dock I had just fished under. Took off to a good pile and sure enough it was loaded and caught a bunch. Bout lunch I decided to make a run and check an area I hadn’t fished in a couple weeks. Fish there too. Went in a creek and sniped and hit brush with success. Don’t know how the day could have been better. Few boat, warmed up quick, fished in my T-shirt after lunch. Wind was perfect. Fish bit, just it was very light. The only problem was I didn’t want to quit, but I know how bad traffic is gonna be. The best part was I didn’t keep any to clean. My point is, you can catch them any way you want to fish. It was fun to switch it up a bit. I sometimes play a game where I see how far away I can catch one. I got a new personal best. Caught one on a 1/16 jig at 65 feet. That’s the longest cast I’ve made. It was two handed and my eyes bugged out!! Just wish I had JetJockey with me to witness it. Dang it! Water was 62 and warmed to 68.

Great report and success. It’s always nice to figure the bite out and boat a few.

Great report! I've also caught some recently open water fishing as well as brush pile fishing. What I haven't been able to do yet is spend a whole day catching them trolling. It's still been just a few here and there, but I think we'll see that pick up when fall temps cool a bit.

Good report Doug. You inspired me to give deer hunting a rest and wet a hook so I hit it about 8AM today and fished until Noon. Took a bit to "find 'em" but after I did it was steady for the remainder of the morning. Boated alot of fish and only kept a couple messes of smaller fish to eat "off the bone", my favorite.

Seeing how the longline bite was good to me today now I wanna fish instead of hunt. It's hard for me to give up hunts tough since those days are limited whereas fishing is all year long. Water temps all morning was @ 65* and it was mostly cloudy with bits of sun thrown in. Nice temps....T-shirt weather after 9AM today.
