    Default Wylie - 4-15-22 Report

Fished from 8:00 to 4:30 doing the usual: dunking minnows around shall brush and banks. Caught 12 crappie , all but one keepers, a small bass and a green sunfish. Like earlier in the week, I picked up 2- 3 fish at most of my holes in Torrance and Crowders Creeks. I have not had a hot bite this year were I caught lots of fish from one location, which usually occurs by now, but obviously from the posts from Big Dawg , Charles Biggers and others show that the fish are there.

    There is always tomorrow.

    Some scattered thoughts:

    1) Lots more people were on the lake , especially late, I suppose because it being a holiday with beautiful weather. Lots of people were fishing in Torrance and Crowders, mostly for crappie. It was such a contrast to the earlier days of this week.

    2) Unlike my last 4 outings to Wylie, there was no one at Nivens Creek ramp that wanted my fish, so all fish were released in good shape back into the lake.

    3) Waverunners, they can be great fun on the water, but many times the drivers are extremely young and inexperienced. Yesterday one passed within 100 feet in front of me as I was cruising down the lake. Almost T-boned them. I am afraid that we will soon have someone killed or injured on a regular basis on our lakes. I am not sure of what can be done, if anything, but it is a concern.

    4) Ramp Etiquette - I am going to sound old ( I am) and to seemed to be just pining for the good ole days, but it seems to me, sometimes out of ignorance and sometimes out of selfishness, that ramp etiquette has steadily declined. Just some of the things i have seen: people breaking into the line with their trailers, not pulling up far enough to tie down their boats and thus delaying others from accessing the ramps, parking their trailer on the ramp because they are just going for a "short ride to test their boat", kayaks using the ramps as a holding area until they can load up even though there is a sand beach 20 feet from the ramp that can be used for that purpose, people swimming around the ramps, etc. I try to get on the water as early as I can so I can miss the crowds, but it seems different to me.

I agree with the jet skis I call them lake nats. They and the wake boats seem to be disrespectful towards the ones fishing.
As far as the ramp. Yes the decline has been going down rapidly. Even when boats are coming up to dock to get ready to load up. I have been at idle trying to get to the dock and had other boats come flying up and grab the dock. Also at night people please turn off the headlights when you’re backing in the trailer so you don’t blind the other people that are trying to do the same.

You ain’t seen nothing yet! Just wait till summer gets here for real. Only gonna be Ebenezer Ramp open this side of the lake . Yes Buster Boyd is up at 49 but you know the circus up there. Had wake boat rules passed this year. About distance and where they can play. But read close the rules. Lake Wylie is exempt ! Water lice will be a nuisance on any body of water. No law enforcement to make em follow rules. Parking lot and ramp etiquette is no more. It’s the I’m for me and screw you if ya don’t like it attitude. Just gettin my 2 cents in

Ebenezer is a nightmare for fisherman and will continue to be..it's great for people that just want to hang out ride bikes, roller skate or walk around in front of the ramps

they are doing the same thing to Big Allison ramp as we speak..it's like they want the launching and parking of boats to be a secondary activity..at the boat ramp

I take it Ebernezer is not a pay ramp? If they had to pay to get in there maybe they'd go somewhere else.

I have and will continue to bang the drum of "everyone operating a boat should have to have a boaters safety course." There are some great free courses online for people to take. I know NC you have to have proof of taking one if you are born after 1988.
Secondly, ramp etiquette is gone, but another HUGE problem that is amplifying the ramp problems is the wake boats that are going by ramps when people are trying to load and unload their boats. I think that every public ramp should have a "No Wake Zone" that crosses the entire channel. More and more people are getting hurt and boats are being damaged at ramps bc of excess traffic at ramps.

it's pay from memorial day to labor day but that has little impact

think it's 5$ per car for ramp use and other use (basketball courts, cookout places, picnic areas, swimming areas)..so 6 of us want to shoot hoops, we ride together and pay 5$

I've fished out of this ramp and others for over 40 years..this use to be THE ramp
