    Default Santee, Lake Marion

73 yrs old and making my First trip ever to crappie fish Santee the first week in May. We Will be camping at KOA off I 95. I am pulling my boat down. I would very much appreciate any info about areas to fish. I am not interested in waypoints or anyones brush piles but general locations in that area where we could safely pull down lines and long lines in fairly open water and find some crappie. Thanks for your help.

Jacks creek will be your best and closest area to fish. All techniques will available. A short truck or boat ride of around 5 miles would be to Taw Caw creek.

I'd LOVE to get back to Santee and do some fishing in Taw Caw Creek. It's been a looooong time since I was last there. Fishing has just been too good here to leave although I know I cannot catch the same quality fish as you do there. Shot gar and carp in Jacks Creek one year in a bow fishing tourney that the South Carolina Bowhunters Assn. put on and won it that year. I believe there were 62 teams involved. Some pretty waters in both areas, although one being VERY different than the other.

One more quick question is the Jack Creek Marina open to the public?

Its been sooooo long for me that I dont even remember a marina being there (but that doesnt mean there wasnt one. I was only there to use the ramp.) There was a store and a landing is all I can remember. And across a little waterway was a Corp shed and boat. But anybody could use the landing beside the store back in those days anyway. Way back when I was there (80's?!?) it was probably a $3 pay ramp. (That was the going prices back then.) Website says there are also campgrounds there.

Jacks has been closed for two years, a couple months back the gates were unlocked and the owners allowed use of the ramps. Two weeks back the gates are again locked. I was told it was due to lack of insurance. I’ve been told the plan is to make some modifications to store and ramps and reopen. I don’t know when that will take place.
