Nice report. Tell that young man if he can figure out how to make a black/gold glitter w/ chartreuse paddle tail he can make some money. Slider quit making the “Stardust” and it is a dynamite jig for crappie. Let me know if he can make ‘em…
Enjoyed getting out Monday on Clark’s Hill with my youngest son, Luke for our first trip of the year. We got on the water around 7:00am, fired up the 1981 Alumacraft and trolled until Hardee’s called our name for lunch. Caught 12 crappie…not a banner day but not bad either. All were good sized fish. Dad isn’t the best crappie fisherman around so we’ll call it a win since he’s dealing with damaged collateral.
Coolest thing about yesterday’s trip: we exclusively used baits that he made. He’s 14 and started his own business out of the garage making crappie baits. He saved up enough money and negotiated support from a family friend to buy a starter kit and he’s been slowly building enough business to get some capital going.
I know this venture is likely a short term thing carrying him through his school years but it should teach him some valuable lessons.
He passed out a few samples to a few nice guys who entertained his pitch at the ramp while we were taking out. One guy even placed an order for 10 bags on Tuesday after apparently having success that afternoon! If you’re one of the folks he spoke with at the ramp and you happen to be reading this…thanks for taking the time to humor him.

Here's his website. I'm posting this just to help the 14yr old out a bit, but FYI, no-one is supposed to advertise in the regular forums. If we allowed that, the place would be a mess with ads. www.southpawlures.com
You're welcome to become a Member Sponsor if you like. You can advertise for him in the "Member Sponsor Classified Ads Forum". Here's a link to the various memberships available: https://www.crappie.com/crappie/payments.php
We wish him all the success in the world. Great to see a young man pursue a passion.
Slab…. Really appreciate that. Certainly did not intend to overstep our boundaries. If it becomes an issue please feel free to edit/delete however you see fit. No hard feelings whatsoever.
I will certainly pass along the opportunity to him about signing up to be a member sponsor and help him navigate through the pros and cons. Trying to let him go through these decision trees on his own without dad interfering too much. He may have to build up some bank before pulling the trigger…trying not to help him with that too much either (so he feels the pain like the rest of us working folks!).
