Upcoming Lake Wylie Visit 3/18-4/3 - Advice needed!
Taking a retirement break from ice fishing Syracuse NY area and plan to visit my kids located in Charlotte ....Mid March 19 - Early April 3.
Staying at a waterfront cottage near Bowater of Catawba Recreational Association.
Appears to be in in the Lake Wylie finger fed by Little Allison Creek
Interested in doing some panfishing for crappie, bluegills, perch or whatever with spinning UL gear.
Cottage has a few kayaks, might be possible to borrow or rent a rowboat+ electric motor.
Questions : if you can help?
1. Appears closest public launch is Ebenezer park @ 2.5 miles..pretty far ouch .
Does Bowater of Catawba Recreational Association allow rowboat trailer launch for fee or free?
2. Kayak would allow dock fishing the Little Allsion Creek finger/bay of Wylie. Would that be a location for crappies or bluegills?
3. Any tackle tips or other?
4. Crappie guides in that area?

Crappies are good eatin if you can get a dozen keepers for supper! We have mostly Black Crappies, few lakes have Whites
Watching youtube videos I discovered Wylie has white perch? I've never seen a white perch .......Any Comments?
We have only yellow perch up north...#1 very good eating, easy to fillet with Mr Twister electric knife!

lots of docks in these coves..they won't be on all of them, but for sure on some
your favorite jig or a gold hook and minnow should do the trick

That one ain’t big enough to be in Perch Magazine. Got a friend that loves fishing for them. I tell him God made them for bad crappie fishermen so they can catch something. Yes , I’m guilty of fishing for them too when I’m on a crappie dry spell. I think they are tasty but my wife demanded I only feed her crappie, but I slip a spotted bass in occasionally.Alot of folks like the white perch as much as the crappie.

Lol. I didn’t find any SC regulations or mention of white perch in the “laws and bylaws”.
How common are typical bluegills, sunfish, pumpkinseeds in Wylie?
Their prespawn period usually follows a few weeks after the crappies …..eg water temp 63 degrees vs 55 degrees
Of course they not near as large as crappies..

White perch are not considered game fish in SC and have NO restrictions as to limits or bait.

And from what Ive read about Wylie even if youre not fishing for them and you catch some dont put them back in the water (per DNR). Dispose of them.
