    Default Deep Water Crappie Tip

I’m catching crappie deep and about 25% of them can’t go back down and float on their side. I’m sharing a tip I saw an Old Timer do. He talked about fizzing with a needle and said it was not necessary!! He poked his pinky finger down their throat just a little bit for about a second. You can’t even tell you do anything but it works. Give it a try, you’ll be amazed. Sometimes I do it before throwing back. It works better if you see one floating to get to it quickly.

never heard of that trick. I use a fishhook to punch a small hole in their air bag
and it seems to work but looks like it would give one a heck of a dose of tonsillitis
i will try the pinky trick on next one maybe won't give it such a sore throat

I've just stopped fishing for them below 20-25ft unless I'm keeping them. So far, haven't had much trouble finding fish in that depth range. I saw that on a video somewhere but can't remember where, the finger trick.

Never heard that one. There are several good YouTube videos of make your own descending devices. Most are for offshore, but if you’re not comfortable on how to properly vent a fish, they are a great alternative. You just don’t need something with too much clamping force for Crappies.
