    Default Crappie-Palooza 2021 - Lake Murray

Our third annual "official" Crappie-Palooza trip is in the books and this one might have been the best one yet. We fished this past weekend on Lake Murray and this year we added a few new guys to the crew. We had a total of 12 folks fishing out of 7 boats this year. We covered the spectrum and had boats fishing all over the lake using all kinds of methods. It was a stellar weekend in the way of weather, but the fishing was on the slow side. Everyone caught fish, but no one blistered them. As tough as the fishing was, we still managed some very nice messes with some very nice fish. Several 2lb plus fish were caught and the biggest was 2.60. We also caught several good stripers too. The fishing was secondary to the fun, fellowship, food, and adult beverages enjoyed by all. Each night we had a feast and capped it all off with a fish fry the last night.

The fish were scattered. Fish were caught in 6-30 FOW and the best method seemed to be long line trolling to cover water. Fish were caught in creeks and in the river and there were very little patterns to be had. If you caught one in an area, you could normally pick up a few more before it was time to move on. Colors were about the same way as well. Bait changing was key and we caught most on slider jigs in a variety of colors. Blue/Chart, Black/Blue/Chart, Yellow/White, and Black/Chart were probably the top getters, but many other colors caught a fish or two. Water temps started out 53-54 at the beginning of the weekend and ended up being 62-63 by Sunday morning.

I'm sad the trip is over, but I'm already looking forward to next year's gathering. It's tough in today's fast pace world to get a chance to slow down and really enjoy the little moments. Having my dad, uncle, cousin, father in law, brother in laws, and several close friends all together enjoying what we love to do was a special time. Many memories were created and many pictures were taken to preserve them. Here are a few of the pictures.

Until the next time, tight lines to all!!!!
