Default Lake Murray Report with Ms. Brantlee

With this corona virus keeping a lot of "normal" activities postponed or canceled I've had the chance to go fishing a little more than usual. I've had the opportunity to get a few folks on the water that don't normally get to go including my friend and my youngest little girl Brantlee. The fishing has been pretty fair for us, but its been a little hit or miss and the overall size has been dwindling but a few nice fish are still being caught each trip. I believe the majority of big fish are in their yearly funk at the moment and should be feeding up before long. I'm still trolling, but the jig poles are in the boat and will be used very soon!!

Fish have been caught in 6-20 FOW in the channel and on the flats pulling a variety of baits. It seems each trip has a new hot color, but blue/chart, black/blue, acid rain, and john deere have all been fairly consistent. Last week my friend caught his first striper and after he wiped out 8 lines I was glad to see he was big enough to take a ride home and enjoy some time on the grill Brantlee went with me last night and she had a blast. Fishing by yourself with a 2.5 year old is quite a chore and I realized that a touch screen depthfinder may not have been the best option for me That child said it was her TV and she turn on and off every setting imaginable before I could even react! I cut the touchlock feature on and she figured out how to cut it off. She also really enjoyed the minnow bucket and handing me minnows to bait up the poles. It was fun to have some one-on-one time with her on the boat and she enjoyed winding in a few crappie, a striper, and a catfish. Hopefully, I'll find some more time on the water in the coming weeks. Hope everyone stays safe and well. Enjoy your time with your love ones at home. This stay at home order isn't all bad.

I bet the fish will be glad when this Covid-19 is over and folks get back to work. They’re not used to getting harassed 7 days a week by so many. I’ve been fortunate to keep working, but I’m a little jealous not getting any free time during the stay at home order. Great report and pics Derek, beautiful little fishermen you have there as well.
