Thread: A thought on brush pile possession

I have recently had 2 encounters with a guy on Wylie. Both times he's complaining about me being on his brush.
Let me clear this up.
Its YOUR BRUSH in your yard.
Its YOUR BRUSH in your boat.
But,
Once you dump it in the lake, it's no longer yours.
IT'S EVERYONE'S!

You are correct on several of your points, but there is a thing such as respect, courtesy, politeness, and acknowledgement of the individual that is taking the time to do all the hard work of placing the brush out only to have a rude brush poacher take issue with him wanting to fish the spot he made. Maybe you should engage with this individual, thank him for his efforts, concede the spot when he’s on the water, ask and you may find he’s ok with sharing “his” hole when he’s not around.

I agree with you.
But its pretty hard to predict when someone will show up. Id stay off it if he's out there, but everyone is out there to go fishing.

Both of you are right, it works both ways. I had found a note one time on a deer stand that read. If you find this stand empty at 6:45 am and no one in it then by all means feel free to hunt here. If you find it is occupied then please do not try to sit in it with me. I don't play well with others with my stuff! In New Jersey on Fort Dix it was required to put your name and phone number on your stand. At least someone could call and ask for permission. Brett, you must have found a serious fisherman. I personally do not mess with anybody's brush piles. It's not worth the trouble and frustration on both party's. I don't think it's right for him to try to run you off because he may have found it the same as you . Either by watching or by depth finder or it truly is his! I would think first come first serve.

I can see both points. I agree once in the water it’s public for anybody. If it was me and I dropped the brush I would either move on (most have several locations) like dawg said “first come first served” or start nice conversation with those fishing. “How’s the brush doing?, I dropped that last year, etc...” then hopefully both parties are nice and fish together or the one fishing will move. Above all though no need for anyone to get rude about it. Plenty of places to fish and share.

There's no other way for it to work.
I was thinking they could show me every brush pile they worked on so i could stay away.
But i don't think they'd be good with that.
Or perhaps, leave a nice orange bouy on every brush pile with your name on it.
All excellent ideas.

There are alot of these, and some that specifically go to areas that they know a particular person fishes and places brush out. I will say that this really makes me mad when I see someone fishing something that I used my time, effort, sweat, and sometimes blood to put in. No it's not a thing I that I can do about it, but I agree that it's out of respect especially when you know whose it is or know it's in a particular area that someone fishes. This is something that only people that put out brush will understand.
