I have the same problem with mine. It is sure frustrating to try to fish and it starts going crazy. I will try unplugging it and to reset it. I wish they would fix there problem. It not a cheap trolling motor.
Round and around she goes where she stops who knows ..This is my 4th AP AND I moved up to the salt water series 24 volt. Every fricking one I've had will do this for some unknown reason . With out a doubt its nice to use these when trolling or tight lining but Why in the world can't they fix this flaw in the units..I plan on taking it back to BPS and get another one. I was fishing in the Shriner TX @ Wateree when it started going crazy.Had to unplug the AP to get it to stop turning. Unhooked the foot pedal first thinking it may be the problem, but the dang thing just wouldn't stop:D .Once I plugged it back up it never had a glinch the rest of the day.

same here & most everybody has had it happen to them at one time or another, I have even replaced the compass in mine & it still acts up a couple times a year
you would think that as much tech out there it would not be a problem to fix i have been lucky i have not had that problem foot controls have been mine.
That problem is usually caused by the shaft not being within 5° of vertical. Hope that helps.
