Good report Brett. Reading some of the cranking posts on this board, and learning fellow fisherman mentioning having 300 to 600 crankbaits, maybe it SHOULD be "crack baits"!!
CRANK BAITS, not crack baits. Sorry
Anyway
3d trip with cranks this morning.
I figure, see if its worth it.
Using Stump Hunters idea, i trolled the E side of the lake, staying in the shade as long as possible.
Luckily, i found an area with multiple creeks and coves.
Caught 7 or 8 before switching to brush piles.
Lost a couple of nice ones at the boat.
Cranks seems to attract bigger fish.
2 treble hooks and my net don't mix well, so no net onboard.

Are you losing your fish on the crankbaits or when you were fishing brush? Sometimes trolling cranks on lighter action rods, the hooks don't set well. I noticed that last year and tried doing a light hook set once I picked the rod up. My catch rate went way up doing that. Thanks for the report I'm gonna go after them on Sunday......hopefully.

Yea, I'd do the hook set. I do that even on jigs. If it's in their mouths I wanna stick 'em.
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
Good report Brett, pulling cranks are fun when it all comes together. I seen on your other thread that you are pulling 1.3 to 1.6 but really that is at the bottom of the speed you should be pulling. 2 mph is the target speed to get the best action out of the cranks. I used my outboard most of the time and it idled a little over 2 mph. I could do it with my trolling motor but pulling that fast my batteries wouldn't last but a few hours. I think the outboard added a little more action but just my thoughts.

I was catching fish at 1.3-1.6 so i was just sticking with it.
Battery does last a lot longer that way.
