    Default Clark Hill Today....

...was TOUGH!! It's been a little over 2 weeks since I last fished and kit was a completely different picture when I got to the ramp this morning. The lake was HIGH, THRASHY, AND MUDDY! Also, after launching I found out the water was about 15 degrees colder starting out at a whopping 60.6 degrees this morning! Man! Talking about signs of a tough day....this was it.

Last weekend it was some bad storms around. Here at home I only received 3/4" of rain all weekend long although I did see some reports of 5+" of rain in other towns in NE Ga/SC. Well, I guess all that water ran down Broad and Savannah Rivers flooding the lakes and turning everything around here RED.

AND, last night was the catfishing tourney at Bobby Brown Park. Man...at all the jugs floating on the lake this morning with several still having fish on them after 8AM. Boats zigzagging everywhere this morning. Musta been a hugh turnout to that contest this year.

Anyhow, talked with a few other boats crappie fishing and it was the same story everywhere on the shallow end of Clark Hill. Fish caught were very few and far apart. Atleast we didnt get skunked. A friend and his 13 year old son went with me today and we wound up putting 10 keeper crappie in the livewell so those fish made them a good mess of fillets for a family meal. The story today for us was "today was fishing, not catching." I still enjoyed the company in my boat and I promised them we will definitely hit it again when the water warms back into the 70's and the lake clears up a bit. Hopefully the next time we go the weather will be as nice as today was...Mild winds and comfortable temps with a lot of sunshine.

10 fish in those conditions is pretty respectable. Good job keeping after them.

Good report. I'm going to visit friends in McCormick next week. I'm taking the boat and will fish out of Dorn. Any advice for a rookie on this lake?

Hate to hear it was tough but glad y'all were able to catch some. Hey GaB question will the fishing still be good in a couple of weeks? I'm suppose to get this boot off in a couple weeks finally and ready to get out.

That seems to be the case on most lakes this year. I was on a great run of good catches myself until last Sunday when the high muddy water rolled in shutting things down. Things should settle down and the bite resume before too long I hope.

Nice catch under those water conditions.
I have a freind who lives down that way and went to fish the mullet run below Clarks hill dam told me the Savannah river was 10 feet above normal and boat ramp was 5 feet under water.
Lake Hartwell was 2 feet above full stage and they were releasing water and Lake Russell of course.
I was fishing a narrow creek on Clarks hill one day when they were releasing water from Hartwell and Russell and the creek l was in the water started running like a river there was such a rush of water coming in.
    Never seen that before.
My wife and I were coming down to fish until we heard about the water conditions.
Hopefully water conditions will stabilise if we don't get more heavy rains.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

The lake will start clearing with the trash going away and the temps will be rising again in 10-12 days I think. Fishing will still be good. You just have to find the bait and then you will find the fish.

Hopefully we wont be getting many more floods in the near future. I'm ready for some more good fishing.

Butch we got under a inch of rain also but many places received many inches of rain. The Saluda is high and muddy also and it takes a good week to clear up to fishable color water. It had to be a hard day but days like that 10 keeper fish is a great day.
