Oh and BTW, Monticello was great. Water was clear and perch and catfish bit. Kept about 30.
Boy did it fog up about 4:00. Even bumped a rock out in the middle of the lake on the way in.
Lucky no damage!!
this was my 2nd trip out with the Helix 10 and I love it.
However, every time a start the boat motor, the Helix cuts off.
I have to restart it like I've shut it off.
It is wired on a circuit separate from the starter motor.
Any Ideas?
I don't fish because I want to, I fish because I HAVE to !
Moma tried real hard.

I would connect it to the trolling motor battery. Mine is. The trolling motor would not draw on the battery as hard pulling down the voltage. Also a trolling battery is made to provide electricity with a slow discharge.
I would take a meter and check your power source that you are hooking the Helix to for voltage drop when starting your engine. Your manual should tell you the voltage range you need.
If that is good then I would gently scratch your pin and sockets and use this conductive grease. NO-OX-ID A-Special- Electrical Contact Grease- Keeps Metals Free of Rust and Corrosion- Part# 10203.
I had a 898 that done the same thing. Applied the conductive grease and never had another issue. It don't take much, if your anywhere near lake wylie I will give you some at no cost.

Good advice, I didn't consider a bad connection.
Prob your start battery is being drawn down during the start. Usually that means that battery is older and may need to be replaced. Some just decide to put their FF on a dedicated battery if they have room or get a bigger start battery

I have a 898 that did the same thing. Changed to a new blue top battery, problem solved.
Mine done the same thing ! took it out of circuit breaker hooked it straight to the same battery with a 3 amp inline fuse ! Problem solved
I ran into the same thing with my Helix 7. Never had an issue with my Garmin. Gonna try what Poorman suggested and see if that helps.
