This guy has great videos on Hartwell Clear Water Crappie
Went out to Hartwell for a couple of hours today. Fished from 85 down to the camp creek area. Water was around 54 to 55. I caught 7 fish. It was a tough day. On the bright side I caught my first fish skipping docks. The bad side was I caught 2 and missed one. They quit biting so I graphed the dock again and the fish were gone. Any thoughts?

I'm far from a crappie expert but from what I have seen, it's not unusual for the fish to leave structure after you catch one or two. Actually that happens to me more times than being able to sit on a school and wack them. I fished Hartwell on Sunday and got 13 nice ones throwing curly tail grubs, but these fish were not on structure. You cold hit a couple out of a school and they would move.
Thanks for the Hartwell report. When shooting docks that you know is holding fish don't go deep under the dock to start. Try working your way from the front to the back to not spook the crappie as bad as pulling fish through the school. If spooked the crappie will move of drop deeper to the bottom and may not show on the graph.

I’ve also found that one you catch a few out of a school, they may not move but they will shut the bite off. Try moving to another dock for 30 min or so. Go back and you will find the majority of the time the fish will still be there and you can pick off 2-3 more. That’s the way I get me a limit. Find 3 or 4 schools and just rotate thru them catching a couple at a time.
