Anybody doing anything with the crappie on Lake Russell? Going on a trip there soon and was wondering if they were doing anything. Have never laid eyes on that lake so it will be interesting especially this time of year.
I can't help you with any crappie specifics on russell right now, never fished them this time of year...just striper fished there a bunch this tme of year. But here are some things to keep in mind about Russell right now. Hartwell is way above full, like 2.5 feet or so. But it was 4.5 feet over full a week or so ago. They have been blasting the water through Hartwell dam 24 hours a day for week or more. And I believe they are running Russell dam just as hard to keep Russell from over filling. So i would expect the Savanah River arm of the lake to have a ton of current and for the cold water being pumped out of Hartwell to be way way down the lake. I would expect extremly clear water and water temps in the mid 50's all the way to the Sanders Ferry Bridge and probably beyond.
I have no idea how that impacts the creek arms. I would assume they would have some current in them as well but nothing like the main river. My guess is the crappie would be sitting out of the current where possible. Not sure any of this helps but the dams on Russell tend to have a major influence on the stripers not sure about the crappie.
