My stint of chasing the green bucket mouths continued yesterday morning. And, I even managed to knock the dust off my jig pole and ultralight before coming off the water! I hate to admit this, but they say the first step to cure an addiction is to admit there's a problem.....before yesterday, it had been a MONTH since I crappie fished and caught one of our beloved speckled panfish!!!! I've had numerous friends and family members ask if I've been ill when I tell them about my bass fishing trips LOL
On to the fishing. Yesterday started out like my past trips and I was on the water floating about 6:15 AM. It seems the fish don't really fire up until good light, but I like to be sitting on my first stop awaiting their arrival. For some reason, I struggled to hook and keep fish hooked yesterday. That was frustrating to say the least, but in the end I managed to piece together another 5 fish limit of bass. Same pattern as previous weeks: topwater plugs and swimbaits fished on points around schooling bass. I boated 10 bass by 9 AM and decided it was time to see if I still remembered how to catch a crappie.
About 5 casts into my first stop I hung a real nice buck fish, but right in line with rest of my morning's luck, he pulled off at the boat. Not to be defeated I moved on to a few lay downs and broke out the jig pole. It didn't take long before I had a couple crappie flopping in the boat and I felt "normal" again LOL
Looks like my next outing will include some more crappie fishing as I slowly transition back to what I know best! But, those bass are hard to leave alone.
I also ran into KHNC and his son on water. It was nice talking with you in person Kenny. I hope y'all caught them too.
