    Default Boy, talk about inflation

One of the things in transitioning to a new smaller boat is that I can keep it at my house rather than having to store it offsite. I wanted to get a good cover for it so it would not get soaked or moldy from water getting in. Sunbrella seems to be the gold standard for marine fabric so I wanted to go with it. There is a lady owned one persom shop near me so I figured she would be as reasonable a cost as I could expect so I took my boat to get an estimate. She has the shop located at her home. I bout fell over when she quoted me $525 for the cover. This is a small 15.5' X 54" boat with a 10HP motor.

I drove back into town thinking maybe she is not that reasonable after all so I called a local canvas shop in town and had them do an estimate. Well I got it im email a while ago and your ready for this?? $1025 for the cover.
Good Heavens what happened in the 10 years since I had a cover made for $175??

Got one more to check, but I thinking I was right about the lady's shop being the least expensive. I would love to get one from boatcoversdirect.com as I have used them in the past, but this boat is not a common style or size so they don't have a good fit pre-made cover for it. I am checking with them to see if they have one they think will work. Their cost for a larger skiff with center console is $425 in Sumbrella fabric.

Having one custom made is the sure fire way to have one that fits your boat. Some times it cost less in the long run to go first class to start with.
My dad told me that many years ago and it took a few years to really understand how right he was.

    Good luck Ray.

That is a lot of inflating to deal with. I want to have individual seat covers made for the toon but I am scared to get a price now.

A good tarp and 1/4” nylon rope are good enough. Takes longer to set up,

Sea Ray I don't know the details on the seamstress operations but you can buy that material at the Williamston fabric outlet they have a sale each month last for 3 days my wife sews and goes up there she bought some to make covers for a couple of chairs she didn't like the way it felt so I'm using them to cover some of my tools tough material. Anyway that place is on 15 Broad St. Williamston SC 29697 might save you some if you buy material

I was going to suggest a good tarp with plenty of bungees. Before I cleaned out half my garage we stored the boat, new Tracker Panfish, outside covered with the tarp. Not as form-fitting but it kept everything dry. We put the seatbacks up to keep rain from pooling.

Ray. go to sportsmans guide.com i bought a very nice cover for my boat (22ft) for under two hundred dollars with free shipping. join the site for $30 . then you get 10%off of every order. well worth it. been doing business with them for over 10 years. good people and american company with english speaking people. their customer service is great to work with.

p.s. Cathy is good but it does get costly. so is east coast canvas. one more thing. i got a 5 year warranty with my cover. give me a call and i will clue you in on this company. 331-8873

Ray, I'm not sure if you've seen my cover, but I paid about $400 for it in 2002 and it's still in good shape. And people wonder why I'm so picky putting it on and off, I don't want to snag it. I think that $500 price is a right good price myself.

Nordins made my last cover so I checked with them today and they will do one out of Sunbrella for $500 so I'm going with them. The quote from the other shop was using a different fabric with same warranty as Sunbrella. For the same money I'd rather have the Sunbrella.
