When your rod eyes freeze up just stick the rod down in the water to warm them up. But if your rod freezes while in the water, then it's time to worry!

Cutbait, you need to come on and go we need you to help out jig fish these guys!
Just finishing up the Fireplace installation on the toon, I got the 100K BTU unit so anyone down wind should be toasty warm.
I launched at Badin one morning at 17 degrees, threw the net for 90 minutes for bait, the boat was ice covered by the time a I got a couple dozen baits, then started fishing. No heat just some hand warmers, it warmed up to 35 by weigh in. The heater in the truck sure felt good on the away home. Ahh the good times only boated one fish all day

If anyone has an extra seat and wants a helper let me know please. Not gonna be able to haul the toon to high rock.
It'll be brisk, but that's when I like to fish in the winter time. If it was pleasant all year long we'd never get the crazies off the lake!!!
Coldest I ever fished was a low of about 13 one morning on Murray years ago. Wind chill was in the single digits. The water in the minnow buckets kept freezing up and for once I wished I could heat my bait up to keep them more lively LOL unlike the stories above, we didn't catch crap but have a good story to tell. There were a few boats of us fishing and one wound up on the bank with a fire LOL
The next morning we woke up to the river being froze over from one bank to the other in front of our place. I've seen that happen 2-3 times in my lifetime. It was about an inch or so of ice and we had to break it to get the boats loaded up. Never seen such a eerie thing and the sound of breaking ice in a fiberglass boat was crazy. Somewhere I've got pictures I'll have to dig up.
