    Default Wylie Fishing Reports

    10-19-17

Night Fishing - We got out to our spot about 8 pm and were set up at a popular night fishing spot on the north end of the lake. We had bait within minutes and a huge rotation of minnows to gizzard shad within the hour. You could even see the bait move when fish were striking from the bottom( never saw the big fish). Fished until midnight with only catching 8 nice crappies, a few catfish, and a gar. I am not sure if there was to much competition from the bait or if the crappies were just not there.

Went out 2 hours before dark for a quick trip. Marked fish on a dock pylon that was in 20 ft of water. Probably the most crappies I have ever marked at one spot. First 5 cast down with minnows equaled 5 good crappies and then they turned off. About 15 minutes later we started catching catfish and caught around 5 including a 20 lb + blue on a 8ft crappie rod. We hung another catfish that i have no clue how big it would of been. It didn't even know it was hooked, and we thought a crappie had wrapped us around brush, until we jerked about twice on it and it took off and snapped the line.

Overall in the last two weeks, I am marking fish and catching a few, but they are not aggressively feeding where and when I am fishing.

Those catfish will make a mess but they sure are fun on lite tackle.

8ft Basspro Micro lite Glass rod. I have caught several big cats, gar, and a NC state citation Spotted Bass on one in the last year. They have a LOT of bend that must keep those big boys from breaking the line or straightening the hook! They are also my favorite rod to throw a spoon at schooling white perch in the summer. The bend in these rods result in less perch having the hook torn out.

I always thought that if catfish move in on your set up then crappie will move out of the way. I know we sometimes have to wait awhile to get them biting. One here and there then a few hours later you can't keep the hook in the water. Maybe the feeding time is not when your going. You still had a good time and something to report. Thanks!
